Dionysus, a symbol of fertility, rebirth and regeneration, is co-creator in the process of becoming and is a metaphor for spirit made corporeal. Connected with symbols of cauldron and cave, night and the moon, he represents the creative aspect of the unconscious whose activity sets one in motion and makes one the instrument in embodying a new form, rhythm or sensuous image. According to Neumann “this ecstatic intensification of spirit leads to vision and word, song and prophesy.”
